First Class Lodging

We’re pleased to offer two terrific events for our guests and friends in 2016. The first is an artist’s delight. The second is a trip to a first class fishing lodge in New Zealand.

Plein Air Oil Painting and Fly Fishing with Andy Skaff
The Luminous Art of Landscape
Henry’s Fork Lodge, September 8th - September 12th, 2016

Join celebrated artist Andy Skaff for a one-of-a-kind opportunity to paint and fish the iconic waters of the Greater Yellowstone.

Plein air oil painting takes its name from the French for “open air.” The object is to translate a beautiful view onto a blank canvas, and there’s no better subject than the stunning landscapes of the American West. Learn to capture vistas on the Henry's Forks and beyond with oils in plein air in the four-day small group workshop. Andy will cover the basic principles of color & design and demonstrate the techniques he has mastered while painting landscapes from the French countryside to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The highly customized workshop is suitable for all skill levels.

On the 100th anniversary of the National Parks, enjoy world-class accommodations near both Grand Teton and Yellowstone. Our Lodge provides fine cuisine and outstanding service in a matchless setting. Come experience our hospitality, cast a line with experienced guides, and learn to appreciate the waters you fish with an artist’s eye.

Andy has been honored with solo shows in San Francisco and Lake Tahoe galleries and invited to exhibit at the Napa Valley Museum, the Oil Painters of America Western Regional Exhibit in Santa Barbara, and most recently, the Yosemite Renaissance semiannual exhibit. Andy’s paintings are featured regularly in installations at Gump’s San Francisco.

Poronui Lodge, New Zealand
Henry’s Fork Lodge Week, November 30 - December 7, 2016

Poronui Lodge is one of New Zealand’s finest sporting lodges and is among the best in the fly fishing world, so it only makes sense that its clientele overlaps with ours at Henry’s Fork Lodge. We’re thrilled to host plan a trip to Poronui so both Lodge guests and newcomers can experience this special place.

Poronui Lodge www.poronui.com sits on 16,000 acres of private wilderness on New Zealand’s spectacular North Island. It offers 25 miles of private streams with special access to others nearby. Wade through pristine waters and sight-cast to browns and rainbows topping 3-5 lbs, or take a break from the stream to tour the famous Lake Taupo area. Non-fishing activities include biking, hiking, horseback riding, field archery, spa treatments, and the chance to experience authentic Maori art and culture.

The accommodations are elegant, tasteful, and comfortable, and the hospitality is genuinely warm, exceptional, and accommodating. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to relax and explore in the heart of New Zealand’s backcountry.

Trip leader Amelie Kappes has worked for the Henry’s Fork Lodge for 15 years, including six years as Lodge Manager and three more overseeing the Lodge from our San Francisco office. Our guests know Amelie as the friendly, gracious, and thoughtful professional who has been instrumental in the life of the Lodge.

Here are the particulars about our trip: * Exchange rates as of March 1, 2016: US $3,776 fishing; US $2,857 nonfishing.
