August report

This past spring we debuted short instructional videos on our Henry's Fork Lodge YouTube channel. If you haven't seen them already, I encourage you to take a look. There are seven videos on Fly Tying Techniques and five on Casting Techniques, all shot at the Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club in San Francisco. The videos were viewed and shared thousands of times (wow!) and I received lots of positive feedback.

So, we decided to produce a few more this summer on the Henry's Fork. Here is a nice shot of our terrific videographer, Mat Rick, and I out on the river last month:

These new videos cover wading safety, playing big fish, handling and releasing fish, and subtle indicator tricks which should be helpful to both beginning and veteran anglers. We will start rolling out the videos next month. Make sure you're subscribed to our YouTube channel so you are alerted when they are live.

In the meantime, please enjoy the trailer for the new series:

Back at the Lodge, we are past the midway point of the season and fishing remains good, with some limits on fishing hours in Montana and Yellowstone Park streams. The Henry’s Fork and other Idaho streams remain open at all hours. We have a few rooms available for August 21-25 and September 6-18 due to cancellations - please contact us if they fit your schedule. Fall fishing promises to be especially good with the exceptional population of large fish this year on the Henry’s Fork.

We have been especially pleased with the number of family groups coming to the Lodge this season. Youngsters, spouses, and other newcomers to our sport have taken to it enthusiastically with help of guides, who enjoy teaching beginners as well as experienced anglers. One family couldn’t wait and the three boys were up at 4:30 a.m. catching fish after fish across from the Lodge before breakfast. We’re delighted to share in their success in catching fish and the fly fishing bug!

We look forward to seeing you here at the Lodge sometime soon.
