Flyfishing photography workshop

We’re excited to have Val Atkinson come to the Lodge to teach a flyfishing photography workshop from August 1-3 this summer. Val is a pioneering photographer who brought professional photography into the world of flyfishing over 40 years ago. His photographs have appeared in all of the leading fishing publications, and he has photographed for Orvis, LL Bean, Frontiers Travel and many other clients, including Henry’s Fork Lodge.

Few areas of the United States are more spectacular than the Henry's Fork and this is an opportunity to learn from a world-renowned photographer on how to capture its iconic beauty. The three-day itinerary will include daily field trips to select destinations such Yellowstone National Park, the historic Harriman Ranch, and other scenic spots. The workshop will concentrate on recognizing great light, good composition and anticipating the perfect moment. Val knows our area well as both a fisherman and photographer. He knows the places, the views, and the changing light conditions, so the Lodge is an ideal headquarters for this workshop.

After hours, you’ll be well taken care of with all the comforts and amenities of a first class lodge, outstanding meals by our three chefs and an inviting place to share your photos and experiences with Val and your fellow photographers. We welcome your bringing a partner along to also participate in the seminar or to fish, explore the Henry’s Fork/Yellowstone area, or just relax.

Full days are to be expected as the workshop will start early and shoot some evenings to capture the dramatic light. Afternoons will include group slide shows, editing and critiques. Participants should bring a digital camera, laptop and the enthusiasm to have a memorable experience. This workshop is perfect for couples who enjoy making photographs and the sport of flyfishing.
